Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 4 cups peeled, thin-sliced potatoes
- ¾ cup raw cow cream
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1½ teaspoons salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13 baking dish with butter or tallow.
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Spread the cooked beef evenly over the potatoes.
- Top with the remaining potatoes.
- Pour the cream evenly over the casserole.
- Dot the top with butter.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes, until potatoes are tender and the top is lightly golden.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
